July 14, 1918 – Full diary entry:
“Wrote to Nora, Mother and GRN.
Went to town in p.m. Got arrested with a bunch of drunks who were fighting. Confined to quarters.”
Still haven’t figured out for certain who “GRN” was. Robert’s grandparents had all died well before 1918.
As mentioned yesterday, drinking was a real problem for these young men. It’s interesting to read Robert’s mentions of the “drunks” in his unit and this isn’t the first time he’s talked about others drinking while he abstained. For what it’s worth, he was anything but a teetotaler later in life. I wonder if he assumed his parents would someday read this diary.

Where was Robert today? See the timeline.
