May 26, 1918 – Full diary entry:
“Went to visit the 328th which just moved in near here. Wrote to Elinore and Dad. They issued cigarettes.
Finished Pottash & Perlmutter.”
More to come about the 328th in the next day or two.
Potash & Perlmutter, written in 1909, was a book of short stories by Montague Glass that was subsequently turned into a hit Broadway play in 1913 and a movie in 1923. The stories had previously been published in the New York Evening Post.
I knew we were living in an amazing era back in 2012, when I was flipping through Robert’s diary, found this entry, and within 10 minutes had downloaded Potash & Perlmutter to my iPad.
