August 2, 1918 – Full diary entry:
“On detail today.
No mail from Nora yet. Letter from Aunt Aggie.”
Agnes McBride West (1853-1931) was Robert’s aunt, the oldest surviving sibling of his father John West. I like to think she had become the matriarch of the family (John and Agnes’ mother Ann had died in 1901). Robert mentions her quite a bit.
He doesn’t know it yet, but this is Robert’s last day at Camp Boussat. He enters the trenches tomorrow.

Where was Robert today? See the timeline.
