July 26, 1918 – Full diary entry:
“Have a new Captain. I believe he is a Mason but I do not know.
Capt. Lewis seems real nice.”
Robert had just written the other day about wishing he had “worked the order” more effectively, making connections with other Masons.
It’s possible Robert is talking about Captain Henry E. Lewis. I know he was with the 140th but can’t find a specific reference to him taking command of Robert’s unit.

Interesting coincidence here – on the U.S. Army Transport Service roster of passengers, Captain Lewis is listed on the Shropshire, the same ship as Chaplain Edwards. And 1st Lt Ralph Truman, shown just below Captain Lewis, is the cousin of future president Harry S Truman.
Where was Robert today? See the timeline.
