More on Thann

June 27, 1918 – Full diary entry:

“Policed up the city today.

Air raids nearly all day.

Church shelled again.

Issued 5¢ worth of tobacco.”

As mentioned yesterday and earlier, Thann really took a pounding. I couldn’t find any pictures of the church after being damaged, but it is definitely a beautiful sight:

William Triplett, in A Youth in the Argonne, provides a spectacular description of Thann and the ongoing artillery fire:

How convenient.
