Mother’s Day

May 12, 1918 – Full diary entry:

“On train all last night. Stopped for coffee at a town and lunch at Eu. 

Today is mother’s day. Next M.D. my dear Nora will be a mother. I pray that God will let me be with her at that time also Mother.”


Robert’s mother, Jane Turner, was born in 1863 in Humbie, a small parish in East Lothian, Scotland, about 15 miles southeast of Edinburgh.

She emigrated to the United States in 1882 and married John Paterson West on June 13, 1889. From the St. Paul Globe, June 14:
